Composition & Rhetoric
This course is listening- and writing-intensive. We explore writing across the modes and in multiple genres from academic to entertainment. Students engage in weekly discussions of course material, posing questions to their peers and to the instructor. Course activities are project-based with opportunities for focus on arguing with sound, images, and text, as well as opportunities for multimodal argument. Students are encouraged to consider course materials through the heuristic of Musical Listening.
In this listening- and writing-intensive course, students compose samples of technical writing. Students participate in weekly discussions, reflecting upon various interactions with technical writing. We cover topics from the ethics of technical writing to multimodal composition of instructions. Students learn to recognize technical writing in their daily lives; communicate professionally with employers, colleagues, and clients; create efficient infographics; and compose written, oral, and multimodal instructions.
